If you are truly stuck for opportunities when it comes to starting your own business, there may be a way out. When I started freelance writing I felt I had absolutely no way of finding work. I didn’t know who to call or where to look. Then I found a website called iFreelance.
This site is heavily orientated towards freelance writing, with some other creative freelance work included too. I registered and began making ‘pitches’. Within about a couple of months of serious pitching for business (yes, it really took that long) I began to get some work. I’ll never forget the first job I got, which was writing some short pieces for a legal website.
A huge market for home business?
The Internet is massive. There are literally hundreds of thousands of ways to make money out there. It is all about getting out there and getting known. The iFreelance site is a perfect example of how freelance writers and creatives can market themselves, agree prices for work, and then make money. But what about the rest of us?
I want to draw your attention to a site I found recently. The site is called domystuff.com. The beauty of this site is that it works in exactly the same way as iFreelance, but it covers a much wider range of jobs.
From raking leaves to website design, the site offers a network where people who need to get some work done can meet people who can do that work. Think of the little ads posted in store windows, and then imagine that on a massive scale. That’s domystuff.
I’m telling you about it because I think it is a great way to get used to how it feels to run your own small business. Providing a service to clients is what the site allows you to do. You can market yourself, set your price, and then do business. And best of all, you don’t have to risk anything at all. The ‘office’ is virtual.
One caveat. It is US only. So anyone from the rest of the world who can find an equivalent in their area, let me know.
And let me know if you try this site too.
Get yourself noticed.
Until next time, work smart.
